Quality, beauty, style and durability all describe the classical architectural column and stone elements that have withstood the test of time. All columns can be crafted in the classic styles- Tuscan, Doric, Ionic, Italian Ionic, Composite Greek and Roman Corinthian. Solomonic or twisted, Mediterranean and many custom designs are also available.

The classical column sizes are available in diameters of 4 inches 1o 120 inches and height from 4 feet to an incredible 180 feet.

What is Cast Stone?

The process of creating cast stone begins with the client’s design concept. If our client has no specific concept we are able to employ our design team, an architect, engineer or designer, to work with the client to capture the idea on paper. After the drawings are approved a mold is fabricated to carefully replicate the details of the drawings.

The Process: The mold is made of fiberglass, steel, wood or rubber depending upon the intricacy of the design. Into this mold a specific formula consisting of cement, crushed stone and additional additives is cast. The process takes place under pressure in an accelerated version of how natural stone is formed. Once the piece is removed from the mold and acid washed it is virtually indistinguishable from quarried, natural stone.

The test of time has shown that this stone molding process will weather better that most quarried stone. It is generally stronger than most quarried stone and generally less expensive. Did you know the compression strength of quarried limestone is 4500 PSI while the average compressive strength of Stromberg Cast stone is 4500 PSI to an incredible 15,000 PSI, dependant upon the formulation used for that particular composite?

What is Stone Clad?

Stromberg Cast Stone is a wonderful material but it, like all stone, is heavy at about 140 lbs. per cubic foot. About twelve years ago Stromberg developed Stone Clad. By bonding stone powder and resins with a fiberglass reinforcement, they were able to produce the look and feel of cut or cast stone at a fraction of the weight.

Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum

Glass fiber reinforced gypsum (G.F.R.G.) is used strictly for interior applications. G.F.R.G. is the optimum choice where inexpensive, lightweight, non-combustible materials are required.

What is Metal Clad?

Metal clad columns and architectural elements are composite castings which have been permanently bonded with bronze, copper or other metal. This process produces superior detail with less weight then traditional cast metals. Dependant upon the specifications of your project the metal can be sealed to retain its original luster or it can be left untreated to allow for a delicate patina to develop for an aged look.
